The first rays of dawn spilled into Gauri Malhotra’s bedroom, brushing the soft pastel walls with warmth. She stirred under her Pikachu-themed pajamas, stretching languidly and yawning. Outside, the city was waking up — birds chattered, the faint hum of traffic drifted in, and somewhere a vendor’s bell jingled.
“Gauri! Beta, get up! Breakfast is ready, or you’ll be late for college!” her mother Anjali’s cheerful voice called.
